Richard Rownak’s passion for Graphic arts started to capture the beauty
he saw around him in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas where he grew up.
The first image he sold was in 1977 and was bought at Richard’s first art show by Bill Clinton when Mr. Clinton was attorney General of the state of Arkansas.
In the Fall of 1977 Richard moved to Los Angeles, where he started a freelance photography career shooting portraits, events and selling his photos at art shows. Richard worked as a still photographer on several movies, which taught him valuable lessons in lighting. He has shot several 16mm black and white short films with friends in Hollywood. His images were as part of a Los Angeles County Museum of Art exhibition “Urban Lights”.
Where he had multiple images in the online and printed book.
One-man shows have been presented at the Los Angeles Photography Center, Bonaventure Hotel and the World Trade Center and participated in numerous public group art shows including the Culver City Art Walk, Culver City Car Show, Brentwood Art Show and numerous shows throughout Southern California as well as Italy. Richard has won awards in the Sierra Club photo contest. Peterson Photographic published his “how to” article “Scenic Splendor”, a guide to landscape photography.
His multi-exposures on single piece of film special effects techniques produced images that were featured in magazine and newspaper articles as well as feature film promotional images on DVD covers. With the advent of the personal computer and the program Adobe Photoshop, Richard has pushed the limits of the medium and won first place awards twice in the largest photo competition in Los Angeles County at the Los Angeles County Fair Photo Contest.
Richard created the “Floral Visions Collections” which transforms live flowers into paintings by scanning live flowers on his flatbed scanner. He calls the art form “Scantography.” Ie “scantography.com.” Richard’s images are influenced by beauty and technology. Richard also specialized in technical photography for KIA, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota and Nissan motors as well as promotion and architecture for many clients.
He continues to further exploring the visual impact of color and depth using a three dimensional program to create his own vision and interesting prospective through his art.
Richard embraces the digital revolution as an extension of the human experience. Currently Richard does select freelance.
